Jewelry Trends Fall-Winter 2016-2017: get the new must-haves

The new season is here and—to get through the back-to-work trauma after a long, lazy summer—nothing better than a shopping session that lets us revamp our wardrobe, shoe rack and modernize our jewelry collection with the hottest key pieces around.

The military, sailor and masculine looks will be taking off (again) and, to go with them, the essential jewelry pieces for Fall-Winter 2016/17 include asymmetrical earrings, chokers and layered necklaces.

7 trendy jewelry pieces for the new season you’ve got to get

Pearls continue to be ON, but in their rebel version:

Pearl necklaces remain a hot trend for the new season, but we recommend you go for their somewhat less-than-classic version.

Asymmetrical earrings, because we love oddball things:

Wearing the same earrings is just so boring, so this year unmatched pairs are hitting the catwalks. At UNOde50, we were pioneers in this trend, but only for bold women.

XXL stones and crystals, excess is best:

One of the hardest-hitting trends for Fall-Winter are pieces with large crystals. Don’t be afraid of size when selecting pendants and rings, to flaunt your rebel look with style.

Ear cuffs, the grunge trend continues:

If you’ve still not given this ear décor a go, it’s now or never, because this season ear cuffs keep showing up on the covers of fashion magazines.

Oversized chokers in the house:

2016 is turning into the year of the choker, and for winter their maxi version is oh-so-hip.

Eye-catching pendants, say goodbye to minimalism:

Pendants are getting bigger and better, and the designs are unlimited. Animal inspiration, colored pieces and a full range of designs that will not go unnoticed. Anything goes as long as it’s big.

Not 2 but 3, necklaces don’t want to be alone:

The combinations of necklaces and pendants worn at different lengths are another hit of the upcoming winter. This is the perfect year to go for impossible mixes of short and long pieces.

The choker: ideas (and reasons) to brandish the trendy necklace for 2016

Chokers are back. This slightly-ominous word that keeps popping up nowadays in fashion magazines to describe the necklace you wear snug against the neck, and which took off in the 90s in all its many glorious versions.

In 2016 they’re back in our lives, revamped and with airs of grunge grandeur. Like anklets—another nineties hit—chokers have made a total comeback this summer.

While true that we’ve seen them since the beginning of the year embellishing the necks of celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Rihanna, their revival wasn’t official until they became de rigueur adornments at music festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. And if you need further proof to confirm their overwhelming success, here’s one for you: images with this hashtag on Instagram have already skyrocketed above 1.5 million.

Why pick chokers right now?

Because in the season that’s about to end, they’ve become the key accessory and, for the season that’s just about to start—Fall-Winter—, the trend is still going strong. And the simple reason is that no single piece can give that little trendy flair to any look quite so easily.

Created from leather, fabric, silver and even gold, the options to take the choker trend on board are so varied that it would be impossible not to find one that absolutely suits you, whatever style you may like, rocker, bohemian, minimal…

And if you’re feeling nostalgic, you have to know that even their most basic option is back: the classic plastic tattoo-effect choker, identical to the ones we wore as teenagers many years ago. However, like what happened in 95, in our (humble) opinion, this version is only recommended for the youngest of us. For 18 and above, selecting an option with a bit higher quality might be a better choice.

Unode50 chokers collection

At UNOde50, we just love the glam rock version of this year’s delightful trend. We pay homage to the decade of the nineties with stunningly unique chokers like “Lizza.” A piece that’s well on its way to becoming a super hit and that fits perfectly with all types of looks, both for day and evening.

If you’re looking for some inspiration, influencers like Noholita and Silvia Bosch have some great ideas for tying together your choker looks on their blogs.

And there is much more: B12, Glamatic, Passion… the choker models in the UNOde50 collection are created to make sure you stand out from the crowd, so discover all our designs on our website and select the one that matches the best and boldest you.

Ankle bracelets: The must-have accessory of summer 2016

The anklet is here to stay. What? Yes, you heard it right: this season, ankle bracelets have become (again!) the essential piece in any summer look. To explain the comeback of this fashion trend, we are going to answer the five basic questions that journalists must answer about any topic if they want to write clearly.

What is being worn?

We’ll say it again: ankle bracelets. They are causing a furor on catwalks and are beginning to sweep through the street style looks of all the admired influencers. Made of silver, gold or even leather or crochet. Super-thin or chunky, with or without charms. Everything goes in this anklet trend!

Who made it fashionable and who is wearing it?

In the spring-summer 2016 Fashion Weeks, more than a few fashionistas were wearing the dernier cri in jewelry. From Chloe to Calvin Klein, not to mention Marc Jacobs, everyone was hooked on these chains. They were even seen in Paris’ haute couture, specifically in the Dior show.

Plus, at the fashion shows we also saw celebrities from all over the world wearing real-life ankle bracelets, and we particularly saw them in the Instagram accounts of trendsetters like the brilliant @Manrepeller or the super-blogger @sincerelyjules.

Where and when should they be worn?

They are essential on the beach. But they are also vital in order to give a vacation-y feel to any work look during the summer months.

The reason behind this trend precisely now is a breeze to understand. First, the anklet was never really totally out of fashion; it has always had its die-hard fans who pulled it out of their jewelry box at the beginning of every June and stowed it away again at the end of every September.

Secondly, the trend of showing ankles, either with rolled-up jeans or culottes or by banishing socks from the wardrobe, has pushed us to decorate them with a host of tiny chains.mariajosediazul

Let’s delve a bit further into this question: Why join the trend this summer? Because it’s fresh, it’s fun, it’s natural and it’s rebellious. Because it signals the beach, hot weather and vacations.

How can I join the ankle bracelet rage?

Naturally and with a rebellious attitude. By matching it with torn jeans, culottes and cigarette trousers that reveal the ankle, with white sneakers, mules and stilettos. At UNOde50 we are joining the ankle bracelet rage with our original, bold designs. Choose your favorite and stick it in your suitcase because you’re going to need it this vacation. It’s going to become one of your mainstays in your Instagram photos at the beach. And if not, only time will tell.

2016, catch me if you can

2016 kicks off with winds of change and new experiences. And for this to happen, nothing better than to discover unknown places in which to breathe in different air. Exotic and paradisiacal destinations in which to lose any notion of time and space. Yes, those sorts of places really do exist, so get ready, book a flight and turn your most adventurous spirit to ON mode. These are our recommendations to travel in the best UNOde50 style.

Jellyfish Lake, Palau, Oceania.

Declared a World Heritage Site in 2012, Jellyfish Lake is known for housing one of the most spectacular jellyfish colonies in the world. The beauty of these jellyfish dancing on the waters is magical and even hard to believe. Which is why swimming surrounded by 13 million of these creatures is one of the rarest experiences you can have. And nothing better than our classic Jellyfish necklace for this paradisiacal enclave in Micronesia, the perfect companion once you’re out of the water.

The Great Barrier Reef, Whitsunday Islands, Australia.

Australia is a fascinating country, with exotic animals you won’t see anywhere else, film-like deserts, unbelievable beaches and, obviously, Australians, that population so constantly willing to have a good time. But if there is one thing you cannot miss out on when it comes to the pearl of the Pacific, that one thing is the Great Barrier Reef surrounding the Whitsunday Islands. Each one of them (74!) is a gem in itself, with authentic virgin landscapes to discover. Tip: set aside a day to relax on the famous Whitehaven beach and, at night, don’t forget your Crusoe necklace when exploring the island bars.

Cenote Azul, Belize.

If you adore adventure, then Belize, with its vast number of atolls, islets and reefs is your ideal destination. And even more so if you go as far as the Arrecife del Faro, at the centre of which you’ll find one of the most stunning spectacles in the world: Gran Cenote Azul (the Great Blue Hole), the perfectly circular shape of which contains beautiful subaquatic landscapes. A true paradise for scuba divers, it is considered one of the 10 best places to dive in the world and it transports us to our Under the Sea necklace.

Cozumel, Mexico.

Located on the Yucatan peninsula and forming part of the second largest barrier reef in the world is the Island of Cozumel, another favourite destination among lovers of diving and other extreme sports. Luxury gastronomy along with exotic flora and fauna are the other attractions on the largest island in the Mexican Caribbean. Visit it wearing our bracelet Pearled!

Lake Hillier, Australia.

Located on Middle Island, Lake Hillier is another of Australia’s wonders. In a Dior-pink shade, unlike other lakes with this rosy effect in its depths, the waters of Hillier lake are 100% pink, although the cause of this colour remains a mystery. And, speaking of mysteries, the bracelet Shadow, from our THE DARKER SIDE OF SUMMER collection, with its hint of leather, is the perfect companion for a road trip around Australia.

Yucatan Cenotes (Riviera Maya), Mexico.

Mayan ruins surrounded by White sands and turquoise waters are the star attractions of the Yucatan peninsula. Yet, its cenotes are its true protagonists. These are sweet water wells that represented entry into the wonders of the Gods’ world to the Mayans. Hidden in jungles and mangroves, the cenotes are one of the most exciting experiences you can have in Mexico while exploring their hidden beauty. However, don’t forget your Under the Sea bracelet for tacos and tequila nights out and about in the Yucatan.

A new jewellery exhibition, the Christian Dior maison, a retrospective journey through the pages of Vogue, the most famous catwalk and even an exclusive patisserie… These are 2016’s must-sees for the ultimate fashionistas.

From head to toe: jewels and shoes

If you are a shoe fetishist, you have an unmissable date in London. Where? In the Victoria & Albert Museum. Until the 31st of this month, you will be able to see Shoes: Pleasure and Pain, a wonderful exhibition that explores shoes through 200 pairs, from ballerinas to stiletto heels. Plus, if you’re a lover of jewels you cannot miss out on Bejewelled Treasures: The Al Thani Collecction MET (until 28 March), a special show of the best Hindu jewellery from the 17th century and its influence on the European jewellers, such as Cartier. The best bit? You can catch both in the same museum.

Fashion to see

Fashion exhibitions are a must in 2016 and will set down in the most fashion-conscious capitals. Until 14 February, the Parisian Les Arts Decoratifs will host Korean Now!, a show that celebrates fashion from this Oriental country and its sources of inspiration. Just a few kilometres away, in Granville, El Musée Christian Dior analyses the couturier’s sources of inspiration for his creations in “Une Maison, des Collections” until 6 March. Crossing the English Channel, the National Portrait Gallery in London offers “Vogue 100: A Century of Style”, an exhibition that travels the pages of the iconic magazine exploring the cultural changes these reflect. Unmissable: the photos by Peter Lindbergh or the Corinne Day editorial starring a teenage and grunge Kate Moss. Finally, from the other side of the pond, Jacqueline de Ribes: The Arte of Style, stands out. A recently opened fall show at the MET dedicated to the woman Valentino christened “the last queen of Paris”.  The muse of Yves Saint Laurent and Emilio Pucci, this French aristocrat had an enviable wardrobe that you can now admire until the 31st of this month.

Sweets and Catwalk in Milan

Italian fashion week is probably one of the most anxiously awaited fashion events in Europe and all of the industries’ most emblematic figures make an appearance at it. Whether in its Autumn-Winter or Spring-Summer edition, don’t miss out on it if you have a get-away to Milan in mind. And, speaking of fashion, once there you have a fundamental date in the legendary Pasticceria Marchesi, Miuccia Prada’s latest whim. Because who doesn’t like that something sweet?
